| What is the District 64 All-Star Tournament?
Davis Little League is a member of California District 64. There are 12
local leagues that comprise District 64, including Davis American, Davis National, Dixon,
Esparto, Travis, Rio Vista, Vacaville American, Vacaville Central, Vacaville National,
Woodland American, Woodland National and Winters.
All-Star teams start by playing a D64 intra-district tournament. Davis American and National Little Leagues each support a 9/10 All-Star team (comprised of 9 & 10 year-olds), a 10/11 All-Star team (comprised of 10 & 11 year olds), an 11/12 All-Star team (comprised of 11 & 12-year-olds), and a Juniors All-Star team (comprised of Juniors players). District 64 hosts an annual "All-Star" tournament at the end of the regular Little League season.
All levels can progress to Sectional and then Divisional Championships. 11/12 year olds have the opportunity, should they continue to win, to advance to the Regional Championships and, ultimately, to the Little League World Series in Williamsport.
Every Davis Little League player age 9 or older that is in "good standing"
is eligible to participate in tournament play provided they are selected to the team.
It is expected that every player selected to a District 64 Tournament Team
will commit to any postseason play necessary, including practices and games,
throughout the District 64 tournament period. Postseason play will begin immediately
following the regular spring season.

Selection Processes
All-Star
Player Selection Process
Each all-star team will consist of
12- 14 players. Every registered player/parent
will be sent an email (to address in registration system) from the league asking if they would like to be
considered for all-stars. Players/parents
are asked to respond no later than May 10th by applying, at no cost,
through the league's online registration system.
Names of all players wishing to be
considered for a team are put on an all-star ballot. The league asks opinions of players, team
managers, and coaches about which players they feel have demonstrated superior
ability and skill as well as a positive attitude and team sportsmanship
throughout the season. Each Majors player is asked to circle 6 names
from the list of players who have registered to be considered. All coaches and players will vote using the
same All-Star ballot. AAA Managers rank the
AAA players who express interest in being considered for an All-Star team.
Once the deadline has passed for
submission of the ballots, the all star teams will be selected using the
following process:
- Teams are selected in the following
order:
- 11-12 All-Stars,
- 9-10 All-Stars,
- 10-11 All-Stars,
- Juniors All-Stars.
- All-Star managers ‘scout’ from the
list of available and eligible players collected through the registration
system.
- Items considered for player
selection include:
- The player's regular season performance,
- The player's regular season
participation,
- The tournament team's "critical
needs" (catcher, pitcher, shortstop etc.),
- Committee members’ personal
knowledge of players and their abilities,
- Players’ ranking from DLL regular
season players and managers, and
- Input from the President, Director
of Baseball, Player Rep and the Tournament Team coaches.
- Player selection is made by a
Tournament Team Selection Committee consisting of: Tournament Team Manager,
Player Representative, Umpire Coordinator, and two individuals appointed by the
President.
All-Star
Coach Selection Process
Every coach is asked if he/she
wishes to be considered for the position of all-star coach (Manager, assistant
coach or, either) at any level/age group. He/she needs to submit a request to the Board
of Directors via the league registrar by May 1st clearly stating which team
he/she wishes to coach (i.e. 9-10 year-old team) together with his/her relevant
experience.
The Board of Directors then meet to
discuss the list of potential Managers. Together the Board selects the Manager
for each team based on the coach's experience, feedback from parents and from
other coaches etc. The Head Coach then
selects the assistant coach(es). The Board of Directors will review and approve each coach selected. All
coaches must have been a manager or an assistant coach during the regular
season.
